But what if it goes deeper? What if it IS someone out there, someone messing with me, just a little? That’s an idea worth entertaining. Now perhaps this is just some boring old routine internet glitch. How and why has this image been removed? And by whom? To demonstrate their own silencing of me? (if so, I say, well done…). The command for imposing radio silence is: Hello all stations, this is 0. The breaking station transmits its message using BATCO to break radio silence. But no, the image has been entirely removed from my media library. The necessary replies are permitted but radio silence is automatically re-imposed afterwards. Suffice it to say that I have been employed for the past several years by an organization that TMF would consider to be in the ranks of the Wise. Discovery of the missing woman elicited a variety of questions: where did the image go? I did not remove it. I have been maintaining radio silence on this board for a number of legal reasons. Missing: the image of a soviet woman, originally posted as part of my essay on acoustic imperialism. In military operations, radio silence is usually a command issued from above, as out of fear that a signal might be intercepted by an enemy. Or at least expressed itself through a subtle silencing of its own. I’ve been doing a lot of really exciting things, few of which relate to craft, and many of which have left me so exhausted that I got home from work last night and was asleep by 7:30pm. But it seems that one little internet gremlin, at least, wanted to be heard. It’s been a record breaking period of silence at Plutonium Muffins. And I appreciate the irony of my silence coming directly in face of a lengthy essay on just that subject: silencing. Ok, I admit – it’s been too long since I’ve posted any content here. Little did I know I would wind up in love, engaged, planning a wedding, moving to a new city, and trying to maintain my career in the middle of it all. &0183 &32 Radio silence is not taken with an ugly or bitter tone-rather, its self-care put in practice by setting boundaries and taking the time to heal in a way that maintaining contact does not give you. Years ago, when I first started planning Uneven Tenor, I envisioned a single, solid chunk of extended travel where I would vagabond my way around the world a la Richard Halliburton on his Royal Road to Romance. It’s just that I’ve had to spend some time focusing on my responsibilities at home as opposed to my irresponsibilities abroad.
